Our school offers Finnish lessons for adults and children every other Saturday starting from 6 September 2008 10.30am. Please come and join us! Our school offers teaching for 2 children’s and 2 adult goups. The teaching is informal, varied and aims to increase the students’ skills of communicating in Finnish: speaking, reading and writing. The students learn about the Finnish way of life and its cultural background. We observe the Finnish calendar and inform about the great men and women who shaped Finland and contributed towards the development of its language in the past. Learning about life in today’s Finland is quite important, too. |

Our school has a library cupboard and we want to encourage parents and children to borrow Finnish books and tapes so that the language is also used at home (very important). We have Christmas and spring celebrations with music and performances and have a chance to eat and drink in a relaxed Finnish atmosphere. At Christmas the children will be visited by Father Christmas – Joulupukki – who delivers presents. In the spring children receive certificates. The school has information forwarded by the Finn-Guild, especially about Finnish language courses both in Finland and in England. We also have the possibility to enter students (adults and teens) to Finnish exams which are held twice a year in London. We firmly believe that we should be proud of our background or connection to Finland and that by learning more about the Finnish values our students would increase their self-esteem, have another dimension in their lives and draw inspiration from the rich sources of Finnish culture.
